Ever since I was saved by our Lord Jesus Christ and became born-again… some of my intolerant “hip-edgy-cool” Hollywood friends have tried to attack me or burn me with derogatory Christian slurs or names. One of those names that always fascinated me was… “HOLY-ROLLER”.
I never really knew where that came from or why people were calling Christians that. I just thought it was a term for a Christian who is on fire for the Lord.
I had no clue what the history or the true etymology of the term “Holy-Roller” was. I also had never heard of the term “Holy Ghost People”. I wasn’t even sure what a Pentecostal was and I certainly don’t know why they handle poisonous snakes or drink strychnine.
I’m just a humble, flawed, follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. I don’t follow a “religion”. I follow Christ. I don’t claim a denomination. I go to a non-deminational Bible church. I pray. I study the Holy Word of the Lord.
So… What is a “HOLY-ROLLER”??
Well… the answer to all of it kinda boils down to one verse in the Bible – MARK 16:18…
Mark 16:18 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
I found these video clips and thought they were very interesting… perhaps even a bit scary?? However whether we agree or disagree on how they worship Jesus, we should not judge or label them. God bless them for they too are our brothers and sisters. We should pray for their safety.
Here’s a couple great clips on the history of it. WOW.
